Tj. Murphy et al., HOHLRAUM SYMMETRY EXPERIMENTS WITH MULTIPLE-BEAM CONES ON THE OMEGA-LASER FACILITY, Physical review letters, 81(1), 1998, pp. 108-111
Symmetry experiments have been performed on the Omega laser facility u
sing cylindrical hohlraum targets with as many as 40 beams arranged in
to multiple beam cones. These experiments constitute a first step in t
he development of ''beam phasing'' in which beams are arranged into mu
ltiple beam cones, forming multiple rings of beam spots on the inner s
urface of a cylindrical hohlraum, and demonstrate the ability to model
hohlraums incorporating multiple beam cones and to tune the time-inte
grated capsule flux asymmetry by adjustment of the beam painting.
