The Nimes-Courbessac (1949-1992) 12 hrs. resolution rainfall database
exhibits a multifractal behaviour for periods of time of at least 12 h
rs. to about 16 days. Using the Double Trace Moment data analysis tech
nique, we estimated the basic multifractal indices alpha almost-equal-
to 0.45+/-0.05 and C1 almost-equal-to 0.60+/-0.02, which characterize
the process in the framework of universal multifractals. The probabili
ty distribution of large fluctuations has a hyperbolic fall-off.
