The analyses of variance and the calculation of the genetic parameters
were based on data obtained from on-station as well as in field perfo
rmance testing of young bulls of the breeds Limousin and Charolais. Da
ta of 1.421 station tested bulls and 1.509 field tested bulls were ava
ilable. Considered performance traits were daily weight gain during th
e testing period (TZ(station)), feed conversion during the testing per
iod conversion in terms of StE input per kg gain (FVStation), and musc
le score on station (BEMStation) as well as body weight (KGEW(Feld)) a
nd muscle score in field (BEMFeld) The estimation of heritabilities wa
s carried out based on a multivariate model under simultaneous conside
ration of all five traits. The heritability estimates for the traits r
ecorded on station and in field were as follows: TZ(Station): 0,37 (+/
-0,048), FVStation: 0,23 (+/-0,038), BEMStation: 032 (+/-0,038), KGEW(
Feld): 0,22 (+/-0,032) und BEMFeld: 0,36 (+/-0,038). Relative to the r
esults published in literature, in particular the heritability estimat
es of the fatting traits were on a low level. A high negative correlat
ion of r(g) = -0.82 between TZ(Station) and FVStation was estimated in
agreement with the literature. With r(g) = -0.04 respectively r(g) =
0.04, no genetic relation was found neither between TZ(Station) and BE
MStation nor between TZ(Station) and BEMFeld.
