The structure of 147Pr has been investigated by performing measurement
s of gamma-ray and conversion-electron singles and gammagamma coincide
nce spectra of mass separated sources of 56-s 147Ce. The proposed leve
l scheme extends the known structure of 147Pr to an energy of 2.2 MeV
and includes several levels below 1.2 MeV that have not been identifie
d in previous decay studies of 147Ce. Measurement of the conversion co
efficients for several transitions has led to the assignment of negati
ve parity to the levels at 362, 452, 467, and 608 keV in 147Pr, which
show properties similar to low-energy negative-parity states identifie
d in Pr-145(86), La-145(88), and Pm-149(88). The presence of low-energ
y negative-parity states suggests that configurations having significa
ntly different deformation, related to the highly deformed region abov
e N = 90 and/or to the reflection asymmetric region identified around
145Ba, may manifest themselves at low energy in these nuclides.
