ABOUT PAINTED AND ENGRAVED STONES FROM SO UTHERN AFRICA AT THE MUSEE-DE-LHOMME

The study of southern african painted or engraved rocks which are stor ed in most of museum raise many methodological problems, since they ha ve been definitively cut off from their archaeological and ethnographi cal environment. Iconographic and stylistic, just as the identificatio n of the nature of the material Itself offer a first step towards thei r integration in the present day field research.
