2-Hydroxy-4-acryloyloxyacetophenone-N-phenylimine (HAAPI) was synthesi
zed, and homo- and copolymerized with methacrylate (MA) in 2-butanone
solution using 2,2'-azobisisobutyronitrile (AIBN) as initiator at 65 d
egrees C. The polymers were characterized by IR and H-1 NMR spectrosco
py. The percentage of HAAPI present in the copolymers was calculated b
y H-1 NMR spectroscopy. The copolymerization reactivity ratios were ca
lculated by the Kelen-Tudos method. The molecular weights of the polym
ers were determined by gel permeation chromatography. Cu(II) and Ni(II
) chelates of the polymers were prepared. The polychelates were charac
terized by IR spectroscopy, elemental analysis and conductivity measur
