Abstract
In this paper, a novel traingle-based video coding scheme for very low bit-rate transmission is presented. In the scheme, regular triangular mesh as used in Brusewitz [6] and Nakaya [7] is replaced by adaptive DT mesh generated by a split-merge approach, and then a new method bas ed on the umbrella matching algorithm (UMA) is developed to refine the coarse motion vectors of Dg's vertices derived from a BMA. Computer s imulations are carried out to evaluate the coding efficiency at 16 kbp s. The results show that the quality of the decoded images is improved greatly compared to BMA or other triangle-based methods. (C) 1998 Aca demic Press.
