An in-situ multi-phase composite NiAl/CI(Mo)-TiC was successfully reac
tion-synthesized from elemental powders using a hot-pressing aided exo
thermic synthesis technique (HPES). The Vickers hardness, fracture tou
ghness as well as compressive strengths of the composites were investi
gated. It was found that the strengths of the as-fabricated composites
are substantially higher than that of monolithic NiAl and most other
NiAl-based composites reported elsewhere. The microstructures of the c
omposites are also reported. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights
