Ruthenium(II) coordination polymers bearing lateral methyl and adamant
ylmethylene substituents, respectively, have bean prepared via reactio
n of equimolar amounts of tetrapyridophenazine 2 and the novel metal m
onomers [Ru(R(2)bpy)Cl-3](x) (3a,b)(R: a, methyl; b, adamantylmethylen
e). Moreover, the bulky adamantylmethylene substituents are shown to c
ause a significantly more extended chain conformation of the intrinsic
ally rigid, ribbon-like coordination polymers 1 than is found for othe
r polymers of this kind available so far.
