Abstract
Infrared to visible frequency upconversion in an erbium-doped lanthanu m-oxide chalcogenide glass excited at 1.06 mu m, is reported for the f irst time. Intense green upconversion emission lines at 525 and 550 nm of the thermally coupled excited State levels H-2(11/2) and S-4(3/2), respectively, is observed. A much lower intensity emission band aroun d 670 nm corresponding to the F-4(9/2)-I-4(15/2) transition, is also o bserved. Two-photon absorption and phonon-assisted energy transfer acc ount for the upconversion excitation mechanism. (C) 1998 Elsevier Scie nce B.V. All rights reserved.
