Abstract
A simplified analysis of noise in concatenated limiting (2R) optoelect ronic repeaters is conducted. Thermal noise causes jitter and amplitud e noise after the limiter. Their impact on the BER is treated separate ly and finally compared. It is found that a larger electrical bandwidt h improves the performance because of reduced jitter up to a point whe re the increased noise bandwidth makes the amplitude noise dominate.
