Abstract
Backscatter noise in fibre-optic gas sensors is investigated. Interfer ence between the signal waves and backscattered waves causes signal fl uctuation in the output, which limits the performance of the sensing s ystem. Sensor resolutions limited by backscatter noise are calculated for both reflection and transmission type sensors.
