Abstract
The authors report on a photonic integrated circuit including a DFB la ser and two electroabsorption modulators separated by an optical ampli fier, for short optical pulse generation and coding. The monolithic in tegration is very simple, based on the use of the same active layer fo r the four optical functions. Pulse generation and coding is demonstra ted at 10 Gbit/s, while the PIC is compatible with 20 Gbit/s operation .
