Abstract
The infinite-dimensional spin-one-half Falicov-Kimball model in an ext ernal magnetic field is solved exactly. We calculate the magnetic susc eptibility in zero field, and the magnetization as a function of the f ield strength. The model shows an anomalous magnetic response from the rmally excited local moments that disappear as the temperature is lowe red. We describe possible real materials that may exhibit this kind of anomalous behavior. [S0163-1829(98)00226-4].
