T. Dada et al., SYMPATHETIC OPHTHALMIA ASSOCIATED WITH ANTECEDENT ADHERENT LEUCOMA - A RARE ASSOCIATION, Acta ophthalmologica Scandinavica, 76(3), 1998, pp. 380-381
Purpose: To report a rare association of sympathetic ophthalmia with a
n antecedent adherent leucoma. Method: A 40-year-old patient with an a
dherent leucoma developed sympathetic ophthalmia in the fellow eye, 15
years after the occurrence of a perforated corneal ulcer. Results: In
travenous pulse dexamethasone therapy followed by tapering oral predni
solone led to complete resolution of the disease process in the sympat
hising eye. Conclusion: Patients with an adherent leucoma subsequent t
o a perforated corneal ulcer may remain at an increased risk of develo
ping sympathetic ophthalmia during their lifetime.
