Potentiometric and spectroscopic (UV-VIS, EPR) methods were used to es
tablish the co-ordination equilibria in Cu2+-impromidine solutions. Im
promidine, a strong H-2 histamine agonist, was found to be an effectiv
e ligand co-ordinating to the Cu2+ ion via two imidazole rings with th
e formation of a 15-membered macrochelate. CuL and CuL2 are the major
complexes formed, with a bis-complex dominating at physiological pH. (
