The growth mechanism of a C-60 thin him on graphite substrate has been
investigated by a quantitative analysis of electron energy-loss spect
ra, together with low-energy electron diffraction and thermal annealin
g measurements. It is found that the early stages of growth at room te
mperature are best described through two-dimensional island ripening i
n a fixed structure and predominantly by a layer-by-layer fashion. (C)
