The analysis of multibeam bathymetry, imagery and geophysical data, ac
quired during the ZoNeCo 4 cruise (October 1996, on board L'Atalante)
on the Lord Howe Rise, gives us evidence on two major events. One eros
ional phase of the ridge is due to its emersion, from the Upper Eocene
and Middle Oligocene. This phase is synchroneous with the Upper Eocen
e obduction of the New Caledonian ophiolites. One volcanic phase affec
ts the Lord Howe Rise from the Upper Oligocene up to the end of the su
bsidence of the ridge. (C) Academie des sciences/Elsevier, Paris.
