A simple method allowing the efficient separation and determination of
cyclodextrins (CDs) by capillary electrophoresis (CE) with amperometr
ic detection was demonstrated. Three native CDs, alpha-, beta- and gam
ma-CD, were baseline separated within 22 min and their detection limit
s were determined to be 2.0, 1.6 and 1.0 mu M, respectively, under the
optimum conditions. Mono-2-Ohydroxypropyl-beta-CD and beta-CD, which
could not be baseline separated under the conditions used to separate
the native CDs, were completely separated when sodium toluene-p-sulfon
