The R-matrix Floquet theory is applied to the study of electron-hydrog
en scattering in the presence of a CO2 laser field. One-electron model
s are first considered in which the target is represented by a potenti
al. Results are also presented for an explicit two-electron calculatio
n, including 1s, (2) over bar s and (2) over bar p orbitals of hydroge
n. Angular distributions are in fairly good agreement with those of th
e low-frequency approximation, even when the momentum transfer is almo
st perpendicular to the polarization of the field.
