Comparative analysis of the biometry of four bleak populations under t
he influence of different water ecosystems in the Czech Republic is pr
esented. Analysis revealed significant differences between compared po
pulations in 22 of 29 plastic variables. Ten variables displayed sexua
l dimorphism. For discriminant analysis, we used the nine characters w
ith the highest discriminating capacity. Re-evaluation according to th
e particular localities classified correctly 92 % of males, and 98 % o
f females, respectively. The present study demonstrates through discri
minant multivariate analysis that classical taxonomic studies in biome
try may provide many possibilities for identifying the local strains o
f fish species or subspecies. These conclusion on bleak are briefly di
scussed.
