Trainee/residents in dermatology are aware of dermatitis herpetiformis
and are usually confident in diagnosing this disorder. However, as de
rmatitis herpetiformis is a rare condition trainee/residents may have
limited experience in the management of this condition. Dr. Catherine
Hardman has gained considerable experience in the management of dermat
itis herpetiformis by working in the department of Dermatology at St.
Mary's Hospital in London which has a longstanding interest in this di
sorder. Dr. Hardman has summarized the clinical and pathological featu
res of dermatitis herpetiformis and has also included current recommen
dations on management from St. Mary's hospital in relation to drug tre
atment and a gluten-free diet.
