Rd. Field et Pa. Griffin, ENHANCING THE HEAVY HIGGS SIGNAL WITH JET-JET PROFILE CUTS, Physical review. D. Particles and fields, 48(7), 1993, pp. 3167-3173
The jet-jet profile, or detailed manner, in which transverse energy an
d mass are distributed around the jet-jet system resulting from the ha
dronic decay of a Z boson in the process Higgs boson-->ZZ at a proton-
proton collider energy of 40 TeV is carefully examined. Two observable
s are defined that can be used to help distinguish the l+l--jet-jet si
gnal from Higgs boson decay from the ''ordinary'' QCD background arisi
ng from the large transverse momentum production of single Z bosons pl
us the associated jets. By making cuts on these observables, signal to
background enhancement factors greater than 100 can be obtained.
