To estimate the feasibility of isoelectric focusing in a continuous mo
de, the conditions for obtaining stable and linear pH gradients were f
irst investigated, using a mixture of carrier ampholytes. Then the ope
rating parameters allowing the isoelectric focusing of bovine serum al
bumin as model protein were determined. A theoretical approach was use
d to find conditions minimizing the electrohydrodynamic effect, mainly
responsible for protein dispersion, for the separation of bovine seru
m albumin and cr-lactalbumin from bovine milk.
