A. Kudelski et al., POTENTIAL DEPENDENCE OF A NUMBER OF THE RESIDUAL SPINS IN THE ELECTRONICALLY CONDUCTING POLYMER MATRIX, Synthetic metals, 95(2), 1998, pp. 87-91
In situ electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) and electrochemical meas
urements have been carried out for electrochemically prepared poly(1,5
-diaminonaphthalene) in an acidic aqueous solution. The EPR intensity
versus electrode potential dependence for this polymer cannot be expla
ined on the basis of the commonly used model of polarons and bipolaron
s. The maximum of the EPR signal is observed for reduced form of the p
olymer; hence, the paramagnetic centers are not likely to be created d
uring the oxidation process. We have proposed a model of spin recombin
ation during the oxidation process which explains this unusual depende
nce of the EPR intensity. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science S.A. All rights re
