The EGO calorimeter of the Canadian 8 pi gamma-ray spectrometer was us
ed to select the weak 2p channel in Ni-Ni fusion reactions, populating
proton-rich Xe-114 and Xe-116. Lifetimes were measured for transition
s within the low-lying positive and negative parity bands in Xe-114,Xe
-116. Measured B(E2) values within the positive parity band were compa
red to calculations with algebraic models. Measured B(E2) values withi
n the negative parity band in Xe-114 suggest a change in structure rel
ative to that of the same band in the heavier xenon isotopes.
