The 225 kJ 60 kV single-turn coil equipment that recently went into fu
ll operation in Berlin, makes it possible to work with magnetic fields
above 200 T in a volume of about 1 cm(3). The generation of such high
magnetic fields take place on a us-time scale and is therefore connec
ted with very strong transient electromagnetic pulses, which considera
bly complicate the measuring procedure. This paper describes the techn
iques used to record data while taking optical measurements in the inf
rared range. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
