Caenorhabditis elegans putative copper ATPase (CUA-1) had been functio
nally expressed in a yeast Delta ccc2 mutant (copper ATPase gene disru
ptant), We found that CUA-1 with Cys-Pro-Cys to Cys-Pro-Ala mutation c
ould not rescue the yeast Delta ccc2 mutant, suggesting that the carbo
xyl terminal cysteine residue in the conserved Cys-Pro-Cys motif is es
sential for copper transport.
