Abstract
Both enantiomers of 15-hexadecanolide, a sex pheromone component of th e stink bug (Piezodorus hybneri), were synthesized by using the Yamagu chi or Mitsunobu macrolactonization reaction of (R)-15-hydroxyhexadeca noic acid prepared from ethyl (R)-beta-hydroxybutyrate in 5 steps.
