The removal of chloride from [PdCl2(cis-dppen)] (1), where cis-dppen i
s cis-1,2-bis(diphenylphosphino)ethene, by precipitating AgCl with AgB
F4, and subsequent treatment with the phosphoniodithioformate S2CPCy3,
where Cy is cyclohexyl, produces the first hexanuclear palladium(II)-
silver(I) complex with triply-bridging sulfide ligands of the composit
ion [Ag2Pd4(mu(3)-S)(4)(cis-dppen)(4)] (BF4)(2) (2). 2 has been fully
characterized by an X-ray structure analysis, NMR spectroscopy, FAB ma
ss spectrometry, elemental analysis and melting point. Due to pi bondi
ng interactions cis-dppen exerts a structural impact on 2 not observed
in a series of related compounds. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science S.A. All
