Magnetomechanical damping (MMD) and mechanical Barkhausen noise power
(MBP) of NO and GO Fe-3%Si strips under torsional stress (frequency ap
proximate to 1 Hz) are studied as a function of the major axis directi
on with respect to the rolling direction (theta = 0 degrees, 23 degree
s, 45 degrees, 55 degrees, 67 degrees, 90 degrees). For all orientatio
ns, NO strips show a relatively high MMD while MBP is always small; fo
r GO strips, only theta = 55 degrees gives significative magnetomechan
ical effects showing the participation of 90 degrees domain walls whic
h should perform large Barkhausen discontinuities. These magnetomechan
ical effects are significantly influenced by the glass film on the GO
strip surfaces.
