THICKNESS AND ANISOTROPY OF THE ICE WATER INTERFACE

Measurements of the ellipticity of the ice water interface are reporte d for both the basal and prism faces of ice. The sign of the elliptici ty indicates anisotropy of the water molecules in the interface region , and the data are consistent with a thickness approximately 1 nm and roughly twice as much anisotropy for the prism as for the basal face.
