The optical constants of the hydrogen-bonded complex of pentachlorophe
nol with 2,3,6-trimethylpyridine in binary systems were determined in
the 12500-600 cm(-1) range using a new thin film transmission techniqu
e, which takes into account the dispersion of the refractive index in
the visible region and the absorption in the NIR an MIR ranges. From t
hese data the spectra of both components of the complex electric permi
ttivity in the NIR and MIR regions and related high-frequency dielectr
ic properties of the hydrogen-bonded complex were determined and discu
ssed. A considerable increase of the molar vibrational polarization du
e to hydrogen bond formation has been demonstrated. The results have b
een compared with data obtained previously for similar systems. (C) 19
