Abstract
The composition of Delta 5(Delta 4) unsaturated medium- and long-chain fatty acids (FAs) of the freshwater sponge Baicalospongia bacilifera was selectively determined by means of the analytical iodolactonizatio n reaction and the structures of FAs were identified by gas chromatogr aphy-mass spectrometry (GC-MS), spectrophotometry, and particular chem ical degradation. The presence of several unusual monoenoic branched-c hain FAs iso-15:1 Delta 4, anteiso-15:1 Delta 4, iso-17:1 Delta 4, ant eiso-17:1 Delta 4, non-methylen interrupted tetraenoic acid 18:4 Delta 5,9,12,15 and isomeric eicosapentaenoic acid (IEPA) with a trans doub le bond (20:5 Delta 5c,8c,11t,14c,17c) was shown.
