Abstract
A method for obtaining general equations for scattered intensities for vibronic (Jahn-Teller) systems based on cumulant expansion of the mol ecular intensity is given. The formulae obtained are used to calculate the effects on the electron diffraction pattern for molecules with a four-fold degenerate electronic G3/2 term interaction with e-and t2-ty pes of vibrations (G3/2 x (e + t2) type of problem). The results are a pplied to the investigation of the Jahn-Teller effect in the ReF6 mole cule.
