The IR spectra of ethyl carbamate in the solid state and CCl4 solution
s were studied. Force constants and electro-optical parameters of hydr
ogen-bonded associates were calculated. The absorption curves of the f
ree and associated ethyl carbamate molecules were compared with experi
mental IR spectra. The characteristic linear and cyclic complex struct
ures were revealed. The results obtained can be used for the analysis
of the chemical and physical transformations in urethanes and polyuret
hanes. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
