A time-resolved chemiluminescent method for the determination of ascor
bic and tartaric acid has been developed. The method is based on the d
ifferential rate of the chemiluminescent reaction of Ru(bipy)(3)(2+) a
scorbic and tartaric acid with Ce(IV). The ascorbic acid system gives
the highest chemiluminescence intensity at 2s, whereas the tartaric ac
id system gives its most intense chemiluminescence emission at 40s. As
corbic acid (1.7x10(-6) similar to 5.2x10(-8) M) and tartaric acid (1.
4x10(-4) similar to 1.4x10(-6) M) in wines were determined simultaneou
sly with relative standard deviations of better than 5%(n=5). The dete
ction limit of ascorbic acid and art acid were 4.8x10(-8) M and 8.4x10
(-7) M, respectively.
