On. Ozoline et Aa. Deev, NONCANONICAL STRUCTURAL ELEMENTS OF PROMOTER DNA AND THEIR ROLE IN COMPLEX-FORMATION WITH RNA-POLYMERASE, Molecular biology, 32(3), 1998, pp. 358-362
Promoter sequences were studied by cluster analysis, Five regions with
nonrandom base distribution were found, and their typical structural
elements were revealed, Some of these elements were homologous to the
sequences located near the promoter regions, which, in a complex with
RNA polymerase, displayed hypersensitivity to DNase I. Since near such
sites the enzyme tightly contacts the promoter DNA, the physicochemic
al features of the found sequences may determine the specificity of th
e interaction of RNA polymerase with different promoters.
