Abstract
An AI-Cu alloy 2024 received in T3 condition (cold worked after soluti onizing and natural aging) was heated at 130 degrees C for 100 and 100 0 h. Fatigue crack growth tests were carried out before and after heat ing with center cracked tension specimens machined in L-T, T-L and 60 degrees orientations. Fracture surfaces were studied by means of scann ing electron microscopy. It was found that the fatigue crack growth ra te depends on the test direction in T3 condition. The orientation effe ct seemed to be lost after prolonged heating at 130 degrees C. (C) 199 8 Elsevier Science S.A. All rights reserved.
