Data on complexation and electrochemical behavior of niobium in chlori
de, oxychloride, chloride-fluoride, oxychloride-fluoride, fluoride, an
d oxyfluoiride melts are considered. Attention is given to the effect
of experimental techniques used on the results obtained. Mechanisms of
the known and possible chemical and electrode reactions accompanying
substitution of ligands in niobium complexes ate considered. The pract
ical importance of reactions of metallic niobium with its halide and o
xyhalide melts is demonstrated. Main directions for further studies ar
e proposed on the basis of examination of published data concerning th
e problem under consideration.
