Abstract
We construct a non-perturbative method to calculate the effective pote ntial of the lambda phi(4) theory at finite temperature. We express th e derivative of the effective potential with respect to the mass squar ed in terms of the full propagator. We reduce this equation to a parti al differential equation for the effective potential using an approxim ation. We numerically solve this equation and obtain the effective pot ential non-perturbatively. We find that the phase transition is second order, as it should be. We determine several critical exponents.
