T. Yamane et al., THERMAL-BEHAVIOR OF SOLID WOOD IN A CARBO NIZING PROCESS II - SIMULATIONS OF THERMAL-BEHAVIOR USING TEMPERATURE CALCULATION, Mokuzai Gakkaishi, 44(3), 1998, pp. 212-217
Charcoal which is produced by the carbonizing system is very useful fo
r various application of carbon organic materials and for protection f
rom environmental problems. However, it is not allowable to waste any
useful energy by crushing solid wood before feeding it to a carbonizin
g system. In a previous paper, it was stated that solid wood are effec
tively carbonized in a furnace by internal pyrolysis. In the first ste
p of heating, the surface of the solid wood is the cooled by the vapor
ization of inner water. In the next step, exothermic reaction is produ
ced by the pyrolysis of cellulose according to the temperature rise of
ambient gas. For this paper, it was found that the test results in th
e previous report were explained by the simulation of thermal behavior
of the solid wood.
