Abstract
Novel designs for integrated-optic M x N x M crossconnect switches are presented and analyzed. Arrays of electroabsorptive microring resonat ors on a semiconductor chip would provide dense wavelength-division-mu ltiplexed switching in a compact, planar, low-voltage, high-speed geom etry. Analysis indicates that the crossconnect is scaleable to 8 x 8 x 8 with more than 48-dB signal-to-crosstalk ratio.
