Tunable 214.5-nm continuous-wave coherent radiation has been generated
by using an all-solid-state light source system. The light source con
sists of the oscillator and amplifier system based on laser diodes and
the two-stage frequency doubling system with KNbO3 and beta-BaB2O4 cr
ystals. The power of the generated 214.5-nm light amounts to more than
100 mu W. This light source will be used for laser cooling of Cd+ ion
s.
