Wrist arthrography has received criticism in recent years for being in
accurate in diagnosing ligament pathology. Much of this criticism is b
ecause of an incomplete understanding of the nature of wrist Ligament
trauma and a misunderstanding of arthrographic criteria for abnormalit
y rather than an inherent limitation of the examination. Armed with a
reliable technical approach and an understanding of the anatomy and th
e features of ligament trauma, the radiologist can provide an assessme
nt of the intraarticular structures, which is equivalent to, and in so
me ways superior to, that of arthroscopy.
