Abstract
This paper investigates the performance of a unified power flow contro ller (UPFC) constructed by a back to back connection of a hysteresis c urrent forced (HCF) converter and a pulse width modulated (PWM) invert er. The UPFC has been modelled at the component level using PSCAD/EMTD C program and the simulation results of the UPFC applications in stead y state power flow control and dynamic stability enhancement are demon strated in a test system. The performance of the proposed switching sc hemes and associated controllers in providing the desired UPFC interna !characteristics such as constant DC bus voltage and bi-directional po wer transfer capability is illustrated.
