This investigation of classroom interaction at a small extension campu
s of a large state university examined student participation through o
bservation, survey, and interview. Attendance, student age, week in th
e semester, course level, and time of day were significant predictors
of student interaction levels. The impact of student gender and instru
ctor gender was mixed.
