L. Buchanan et al., THE CONTRIBUTION OF VISUOSPATIAL WORKING-MEMORY TO IMPAIRMENTS IN FACIAL PROCESSING AND ARITHMETIC IN TURNER-SYNDROME, Brain and cognition, 37(1), 1998, pp. 72-75
Turner syndrome (TS) is a disorder in which females are born with eith
er a single X chromosome or one partial second chromosome. The disorde
r has associated cognitive deficits and neuropsychological impairments
. We examine the extent to which two of these impairments (facial proc
essing and arithmetic) are determined by deficits in visuospatial work
ing memory. When contrasted with normal age matched controls, the 9 gi
rls in the TS group performed more poorly on both arithmetic and facia
l processing tests. Moreover, their scores were related to the extent
to which they were sensitive to visuospatial information during a test
of working memory.
