Abstract
The d.c. current-voltage characteristics of single crystals of bilayer ed Ca3Ru2O7 show ''S_shaped'', current-controlled, negative differenti al resistivity, the first such observation in heavy transition metal o xides. The non-ohmic behavior is restricted to the Ru-based antiferrom agnetic non-metallic region of the complex temperature-magnetic field phase space. The effect is seen in related single crystal iridates. (C ) 1998 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
