S. Cuperman et al., IDENTIFICATION AND ELIMINATION OF THE RESIDUAL AMBIGUITY IN THE SIGN OF OBSERVED PHOTOSPHERIC MAGNETIC-FIELDS, Astronomy and astrophysics, 278(1), 1993, pp. 279-287
The existing methods for the removal of the 180-degrees ambiguity in t
he sign of the observed transverse photospheric magnetic field present
some inherent-computational and/or intrinsic limitations. In this wor
k we propose and demonstrate suitable procedures for the identificatio
n and elimination of the residual 180-degrees ambiguity in the sign of
B(perpendicular-to) observed fields, that is of the ambiguity which i
s not removed by the various methods in use. These procedures are test
ed on the case of force-free magnetic field configurations for which e
xact analytical solutions to compare with exist.
